Texans know how to do everything bigger and better, and with the size of our land, it's no shocker that hunting is one of them. The Texas Hill Country's open land has curated a hunter's paradise, making it a top hunting destination.

A city in San Antonio's backyard was ranked among the top 10 hunting destinations nationwide by 24/7 Wall St. Although it is out of the city, Boerne's Joshua Creek Ranch brings luxury to hunting with its variety of offerings.

Joshua Creek Ranch ranked at No. 9 for its premier hunting lodge and Texas Hill Country sporting resort offering both guided and luxury experiences. The ranch received the Orvis Endorsed Wingshooting Lodge of the Year Award in 2018 and was a finalist in 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2021, according to the report.

Aside from a guide, the ranch also pairs gun dogs with its hunters to ensure a smooth experience and assist hunters on their journey. Hunters have a variety of games to chase, including quail, upland birds, pheasant, mallard duck, axis deer and white-tailed deer.

Joshua Creek Ranch is located at 132 Cravey Road, Boerne, TX 78006. Hunting packages at the ranch begin at $795, not including room reservation, according to the report. Lodging for non-members starts at $199 per room, according to the ranch's website.

"Not only is the hunting experience world-class, but it is complemented by a full luxury experience that includes resort-style lodging and amenities, fine dining, and warm Texas hospitality. So it’s our full, end-to-end experience that really stands out among other destinations," Managing Director Kevin Welborn said.

This hunting season, the ranch will be celebrating its 35th anniversary and credits its success to its scenic location and owners.

"We have been fortunate to successfully grow our business every year since opening in 1990 – that doesn’t happen by accident. Of course, it helps to have this incredibly beautiful property in the heart of the Texas hill Country. But, more than anything, it’s having owners and staff that are willing to literally do whatever it takes to deliver an exceptional and memorable guest experience," Managing Director Kevin Welborn said.

East Texas' Pineywoods was ranked at No. 19 as an affordable option with prices starting at $45. Other hunting destinations included South Dakota and Alaska.
